2019 Scholarship Applications

We are excited to announce that the 2019 Scholarship Program is open for applications.

Scholarships are open to students who are SWANA members or a spouse, child, grandchild, nephew or niece of a SWANA member. This year, there will be up to $3,000 available for high school seniors who will continue on with post-secondary education in a university, college or vocational school. In addition, there will be up to $3,000 available for students who are enrolled in a vocational school or in an undergraduate program at a college or university and are continuing on with their education.

Students must plan to enroll full time, or be enrolled full time, in an accredited college, university or vocational school leading to a degree or certificate. The scholarship committee will consider candidates’ academic records (candidates must maintain a minimum of a “C” average), financial need, and participation in community or school service activities in making selections of this year’s recipients.

Applications must be postmarked by April 26, 2019 and applicants will be notified of a decision by May 10, 2019

High School Application

Candidates should be a high school senior that is committed to continuing education in a university, college or vocational school.

Candidates should be currently enrolled in a college, university or vocational program (through senior year).

National SWANA Scholarships

The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) has announced their 2019 Scholarship Opportunities. SWANA typically distributes $20,000-$25,000 in four or five scholarships. There are three categories for scholarships:

Category I – High School Senior entering junior or four-year college/university to pursue any field of study. Candidate must have a SWANA member as a sponsor.

Category II – University junior/senior studying a field with potential for a career in solid waste management. This does not strictly have to be a science or engineering field.

Robert P. Stearns/SCS Engineers Scholarship – Graduate students studying environmental science, engineering or a related solid waste management field.

All applications must be submitted to the local Hoosier Chapter Scholarship Committee by May 1st, 2019.

SWANA Category I Scholarship

To be eligible to apply for one of SWANA’s three Category 1 Scholarships, each worth $5,000, you must:
• Be a graduating high school senior or have an equivalent level of education
• Be the natural, adopted or step child or grandchild of a SWANA member in good standing who will act as your Sponsor
• Be accepted for enrollment in a junior college or four-year college or university in any program of study. SWANA’s membership is diverse and we encourage you to consider how your selected area of study might lead you into our professional ranks.

SWANA Category II Application

To be eligible to apply for SWANA’s Category II Scholarship, worth $5,000, you must:
• Be enrolled full-time in college or university
• Be entering your junior or senior year of undergraduate studies
• Pursuing a degree in environmental science, environmental studies, engineering or a major related to or applicable to the field of solid waste management. SWANA’s membership is diverse and we encourage you to consider how your selected area of study might lead you into our professional ranks.
• Be a SWANA Student Member. This is free to full-time students and you can join by visiting www.swana.org.

Robert P. Stearns/SCS Engineers Application

To be eligible to apply for the Robert P. Stearns/SCS Engineers Scholarship, worth up to $5,000, you must:
• Be a full-time student entering or already in graduate school
• Pursuing a degree in environmental science, engineering or other suitable major related to the field of solid waste management.
• Be a SWANA Student Member. This is free to full-time students and you can join by visiting www.swana.org.
