2020 Scholarships Awarded
The Hoosier Chapter of SWANA was pleased to award a total of four scholarships for the 2020 Scholarship Cycle. Each year the Scholarship Committee is impressed with quality of academic success and community involvement that applicants exemplify. With the changes and challenges that have come with the year 2020, the committee was even more impressed with this year’s applicants and was honored to be able to review and recommend scholarship winners.

Maura Ross – $2,000.00 Post Secondary Scholarship Award Winner, $5,000.00 Grant H. Flint Scholarship Award Winner
Maura Ross is a student at Butler University and Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. Ross is pursuing a triple major with studies in music, environmental science and engineering.
Ross is a member of the Green Council, a research assistant and has studied Waste To Energy Facilities in Sweden.
Not only was Ross awarded a Hoosier Chapter Scholarship, she was selected as the Chapter nomination for the National SWANA Grant H. Flint Scholarship. The Chapter was thrilled to learn that Ross received a $5,000.00 scholarship award, our first Chapter nomination winner!
Emily Whitehead – $500.00 Post Secondary Scholarship Award Winner
Emily Whitehead is currently pursuing a double major in Biology and Environmental Management with a concentration in Wildlife Biology and Conservation. Whitehead is currently studying at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
While maintaining a demanding academic schedule Whitehead also continues her career with the Indiana National Guard. As a soldier with the National Guard, she has recently been serving overseas.
Sydney Marlow – $500.00 Post Secondary Scholarship Award Winner
Sydney Marlow is currently majoring in communications at the University of Louisville. In her freshman year, Marlow discovered a passion for the field of communications and has put that passion into play as a social media volunteer for local political campaigns.
When not volunteering or working on academics, Marlow keeps a steady schedule working at UPS to help fund her schooling.
Demi Meredith – $3,000.00 High School Scholarship Award Winner
Demi Meredith is currently a student at Columbus North High School. In addition to working hard and maintaining an impressive GPA, Meredith has completed several job shadowing opportunities with Columbus Regional Hospital.
Meredith plans to attend Indiana University in Bloomington, IN to pursue a major in nursing.
