SAFETY ALERT
On Friday, July 20th in Avon, Indiana sometime around 4 a.m., a private sector garbage truck was traveling eastbound on U.S. 36, preparing to turn north on Avon Village Parkway, when it collided with a pickup truck traveling westbound on US 36. This caused the pickup truck to collide with a utility pole and the driver was killed. Other information about the victim has not yet been made available. This marks the 3rd solid waste-related incident and 5th fatality in Indiana this year. It highlights the need to continue to provide safety training and information at the Chapter and SWANA International levels. Another great way for members to learn more about safety this year will be at WASTECON® in Nashville, Tennessee, August 20 – 23. SWANA’s 6th Safety Summit will occur there, as well as the 2018 Safety Awards ceremony and Safety Zone in the exhibit hall.
