INDIANA GOVERNOR PROCLAIMS
OCTOBER 14-20, 2018
INDIANA MOVE OVER WEEK
Hoosier Chapter of SWANA at Indiana State Fairgrounds to Raise Awareness
A little over three years ago, Indiana joined eight other states by putting in place a law to protect workers of all kinds along the state’s roadways, including waste and recycling collection workers. Currently 21 states have enacted Move Over, or Slow Down To Get Around Legislation.
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has proclaimed Move Over Week, beginning October 14th. See a copy of the official proclamation here. The week was capped off with a “touch a truck” at the Indiana State Fairgrounds South Lot (38th Street Across from the Main Entrance). The Hoosier Chapter was there, along with partner organizations, including the Indiana Towing and Wrecker Association, INDOT, Indiana State Police, Indiana Energy Association, Indiana Constructors Inc., Indiana Broadband and Technology Association, Indiana Sheriffs’ Association, Indiana Firefighters’ Association, Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police, Road Construction Awareness Corporation, NWRA, and the Indiana Motor Truck Association.
At 11:00 a.m., the governor’s proclamation was read and presented by Indiana State Representative Gregory Porter, highlighting the law that requires motorists to slow down and safely move over when approaching specific types of vehicles (including solid waste collection vehicles) along the roadway.
